A walk through histrory in Lisbon

Lisbon was a great city defended by about 15,000 Moors and well fortified, which made it diifficult to conquer by surprise attack. At the end of June, 1147 D. Afonso Henriques (the first Portuguese king) with the help of about 15,000 crusaders on their way to the Holy Land and with a Portuguese army of about 30,000 combatants, laid siege to Lisbon. After 3 months on 21st. October legend has it that the knight, Martim Moniz and a small group of crusaders forced open the gates of the castle.
